Ander Herrera released from contract

Athletic Club and Ander Herrera have reached a financial agreement in order to release the midfielder from his contract.

The Bilbao-born player ends his time as a Lion with 189 appearances. Sixty-one of those matches came in second spell at the club, a stint which also saw him lift the Copa del Rey. After the Europa League and Copa finals in 2011/12, it was his third final at Athletic.

At 35 years of age, Ander Herrera has decided to embark upon an Argentinian adventure, with Boca Juniors set to be the fifth club of his career. The agreement betwen both clubs includes an undisclosed transfer fee.

The midfielder has made 14 appearances this season, three of them as a starter. His last match as a Lion came in our recent Copa del Rey clash against UD Logroñés at Las Gaunas.
