The Gastronomic Cathedral grows to 12 Michelin stars

Food prepared by Alatz Bilbao, Julen Bergantiños and Fernando González – all recently awarded a Michelin star – will now be available at San Mames VIP Area starting with the match against Villarreal CF on April 12 until the end of the season

The Gastronomic Cathedral that the San Mamés VIP Area becomes on match days has welcomed three new Michelin-starred chefs: Alatz Bilbao of Bakea, Julen Bergantiños of Islares and Fernando González of La Revelía.

Starting with Athletic's fixture against Villarreal CF on 12 April (21:00 CEST), and continuing until the end of the season, the high-end cuisine created by these three chefs will be included in the ‘all-inclusive’ menu that SMVA users can enjoy before, during half-time and after full-time at Athletic Club matches at San Mames.

12 Michelin stars, a world-class team

With the addition of Alatz Bilbao, Julen Bergantiños and Fernando González, Bizkaia restaurants with a combined total of 12 Michelin stars between them now contribute to SMVA's catering services on match days: Azurmendi (3*), Nerua Guggenheim Bilbao, Garena, Andra Mari, Eneko, Boroa, Zarate and the previously mentioned Bakea, Islares and La Revelía.

It's a stellar line-up that also includes the Bilbao School of Hospitality, which trains professionals of the future, and the various wineries affiliated with the Bizkaia Txakoli Designation of Origin, offering visitors the chance to sample their txakolis (a popular Basque wine) during their time at SMVA.

This is very special project through which Athletic Club aims to help promote the profile of cuisine in Bizkaia via the world of football.

The Gastromonic Cathedral establishes San Mames as a stadium with its own brand of cuisine, competing at the very highest international level - just like Athletic Club.
