Terzić: “We have to win the derby against Real Sociedad”
Edin Terzić has spoken to press before Sunday's match between Athletic Club and Real Sociedad at San Mamés
Edin Terzić is focusing all his efforts on “securing the three points and sending out a positive message” in Sunday's Basque derby against Real Sociedad at San Mames.
The clash will put the Lions’ good run of form to the test, as they seek a third consecutive victory following wins against Getafe in LaLiga and AE Prat in the Copa.
The German coach, who turned 44 on Friday, is highly motivated ahead of his first official Basque Derby.
“Everyone knows what a derby entails. We know how important it is. I can’t wait to experience it – my first night at San Mamés,” Terzić said at his pre-match press conference.
"I’ve been very lucky to have experienced so many derbies and I’m really looking forward to this one. They’re very emotional matches and we need to be ready for the emotions and also know how to keep a cool head. We must win, pick up three points and send out a positive message."
The Lions will be hosting a team in high spirits, with la Real having enjoyed some good results in recent weeks.
Edin added: "They’re in good form, having won four LaLiga matches in a row. They have many strengths: they’re solid in midfield, very dangerous on the counter-attack, and they play very well as a team. We’re aware of their strengths and have prepared accordingly."
"We respect our opponents, but we’ll be focusing more on our own team. What matters most is the here and now. We have to win the derby."
Asked about Álvaro Djaló’s situation, the German coach said he hopes the striker will soon be back to full fitness.
“He’s available to train with the team and to play. However, we want to follow the same process as with the other injured players, so that he can get back into the rhythm of competition following the medical issue he suffered after playing for his national team.”
