Terzic: "It feels like we lost two points"

This is what the gaffer said after the Lions' bittersweet 1-1 draw against CA Osasuna in Pamplona

Edin Terzić believes Athletic's performance should have been enough to beat Osasuna at El Sadar, reiterating the importance of learning from mistakes and continuing to improve.

The head coach praised his team's display in the second half in particular, saying he felt they were the better side and created enough chances to secure all three points.

"With the way we played, we deserved more. But if you concede a goal like that, then you can’t expect to win," he said.

"It feels like we lost two points. In football if you only score one goal, the game’s not finished and you have to defend until the final second."

The German coach said Athletic needed to "get a second goal" to put the game to bed and "stop Osasuna from believing".

"With a second goal, it's a different game. With that result, the final five minutes in this stadium against a team that likes to cross and is dangerous from set-pieces, would have been completely different.

"We need to learn from our mistakes and be more clinical in how we protect our own goal and keep the opponents away from our goalkeeper."

Despite the result, Edin is pleased with how his players have improved over the past four games, highlighting massive progressions in their understanding of what we wants.

He said: "The team has truly responded well between these two international breaks. I truly believe we're in a good way. We'll use this break to find a balance between getting fresher, learning and preparing players that haven't had many minutes recently.

"I'm looking forward to the next phase of the season."
