Athletic Club - Madrid CFF

Athletic Club overturned Madrid CFF’s early lead to pick up all three points at Lezama on Saturday morning. Geyse scored for the visitors in the second minute, but Yulema Corres and Ane Azkona each scored in the space of two first-half minutes to turn the score around.

The Lionesses lacked intensity as they conceded an early goal to Madrid’s in-form striker. However, Iraia Iturregi’s side managed to keep possession and Lucía García almost scored in the 18th minute.

The equaliser came via Yulema Corres in the 42nd minute, and a minute later, Azkona headed Oguiza’s cross into the back of the net. Within the blink of an eye the Lionesses had taken the lead.

After the break, Madrid CFF had a couple of dangerous chances but the Athletic defence was well organised. But at the other end, Athletic lacked cutting edge, struggling to find a third goal and put the game to bed.

The Madrid side pushed hard for an equaliser in the dying minutes but Las Rojiblancas held out and took home the win. The Lionesses are now back to winning ways and will look put together a run of form and climb up the table.
