Athletic Club - Real Sociedad

Athletic Club have won the eighth edition of the Euskal Herriko Kopa women’s football tournament, beating Real Sociedad (5-1) in the final, played in Urritxe (Amorebieta), with goals from Leia, Nekane, M.Unzue and Moraza (2).

With the game played on 1 September, Athletic Club now have seven titles in this tournament (Bakio 2011, Azpeitia 2013, Bilbao 2014, Zarautz 2015, Gernika 2016, Elgoibar 2017 and Amorebieta 2018), while Real Sociedad won in Beasain in 2012.

Thanks to goals from Leia and Nekane, Athletic dominated the game from the first half. The Lionesses controlled the game and thanks to this dominance, the chances were not long in coming. Leia’s goal in the 10th minute opened the scoring. In the 36th minute, Nekane increased the lead.

In the second half, Marta Unzué’s early goal put an end to any chance of a reaction from the Txuri-urdin side. Mendoza, from a free kick, reduced the lead, but two more goals from Moraza rounded off the scoring tally for the red and whites.
