The lionesses’ unbeaten streak ends with a 0-2 loss against Levante UD
Athletic Club Women fell to a first Primera Iberdrola defeat of the season, going down 0-2 to Levante UD. A goal by Andonova and an own goal by Naroa Uriarte were enough to see the visitors take the three points.
The lionesses will have an opportunity to make amends this Sunday, when they face Real Madrid at Valdebebas.
Levante UD came well drilled and were prepared to let Athletic take control of possession. Athletic’s winger were particularly active, but they lacked the killer instinct with the final ball.
In the 19th minute, Levante could have taken the lead when Andrea de la Nava tipped Esther’s effort onto the crossbar.
After the restart, Lucia Garcia came out looking for a goal and Erika Vazquez almost got a goal from a set-piece.
Levante took the lead in the 62 minute when a powerful strike by Andonova got the better of De la Nava.
Erika came close to scoring an equaliser. A well-struck free kick once again forcing the opposition keeper into action.
Villacampa’s side pushed on for the levellers but it soon became a race against time. No matter how hard they looked for the killer ball, it just wouldn’t come.
Then in a unfortunate passage of play, Naroa turned a cross into the back of her own net in the 85th minute. The game ended 0-2.
