Athletic drew 2-2 with Valencia at Lezama after an end-to-end match on Saturday morning. Valencia CF took the lead in the 5th minute and on the stroke of half-time Irene Oguiza equalised. In the second half, Oguiza put the Lionesses ahead with her second before Asun drew the visitors level, also with her second of the match.

Asun shocked Athletic when she opened the scoring within the first five minutes. However, the Lionesses fought back and equalised on the stroke of half-time, midfielder Oguiza, who was making her first appearance of the season, heading home from a brilliant delivery by Nekane.

Aided by Oguiza’s morale-boosting, Athletic came out fired up after the break. Within ten minutes of the restart, Oguiza scored another header to make it 2-1.

It came in a passage of play that was almost identical to the first goal, with the player make the most of Nekane’s pinpoint cross. But the joy was short-lived. Two minutes later, Asun completed her own brace, dragging Valencia back into the game.

The match then became a good-old fashioned tug-of-war, with both side having chances to take home all three points. In the 74th minute, Valencia goalkeeper Enith Salón thwarted Lucía García to keep the scores level.

Athletic’s Leyre Monente came on to a standing ovation, making her first appearance after a nine-month injury lay-off. In the final stretch, Iraia Iturregi’s Lionesses did their best to score a winner, but could not find a way past Enith.

The visitors wasted time towards the end of the match as they looked to secure a draw and Iraia Iturregi was sent off. Ane Azkona had one last chance from a corner, but the scores remained 2-2.
