In view of the recent statements by Sports Minister, Jaime Lissavetzky, in which he burns all bridges to any possibility of reducing the sanction that weighs over Carlos Gurpegi, the Athletic Club Supporters’ Clubs would like to express their utmost disapproval with the attitude of the Superior Sports Council (CSD) throughout the whole process against the player from Andosilla.

We understand that Carlos Gurpegi is being used as a scapegoat in the cynical and arbitrary crusade against doping, undertaken by the CSD’s decision-making body, whose inflexible position towards the Athletic midfielder vividly contrasts with the indulgence which they have shown in other cases of alleged doping, which are in everyone’s mind. And all this, in spite of the flagrant irregularities committed against Gurpegi at the beginning of the process and the conclusiveness of the tests presented in his defence.

Finally, we’d like to take this opportunity to once again declare our absolute conviction of Carlos Gurpegi’s innocence; just as has been demonstrated by the exams carried out by Dr. Maynar at the University of Extremadura and the hair sample test performed at the Pasteur Institute of Legal Medicine in Strasbourg.
