Copa commemoration in Jolaseta

The Athletic Club Board of directors and the Real Club Jolaseta Board of directors met today at Ibaigane to create an organization committee concerning the commemorative events to be held in the weeks to come, to mark the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Athletic Club’s Copa victory at Jolaseta’s old pitch, on 15 April 1911. In said final, the Red-Whites beat Espanyol (3-1).

The Jolaseta football field, located in Neguri (Getxo), belonged to Athletic until San Mamés was inaugurated in August 1911. Their first encounter in Neguri dates back to 2 April 1911, and it was a friendly match between Athletic and Bilbao, an affiliated club, and one week later; the first official match was played, corresponding to the Copa tournament, between the Red-White squad and Fortuna de Vigo. In total, 4 official matches and 44 friendly matches were played at Jolaseta.
