The idea to visit Ethiopia began in one of the many trips that the team normally takes during the season, in philosophical and substantial social gatherings in which the most profound humane side is normally exposed. Our main objective as footballers consists of training and watching out for ourselves during the week so as to be in the best shape possible to compete on Sunday and, of course, to win. But as Athletic players that we are, a mirror in which many youngsters (and not-so-young alike) look, we believe we have a duty to society.

We love football and spreading the Athletic name wherever we go, but we also like to participate in projects that represent social support. As we are accustomed to the privileges and comforts of the location we live, we will immerse ourselves for 13 days in the Horn of Africa, one of the poorest regions of the world. The Basque missionary, Angel Olaran, has been in the city of Wukro for many years, where he has given support to over 2,400 orphans, families who are dying of hunger, AIDS patients or girls who are forced to prostitute themselves to provide for their families, all of whom are simply fighting to gain fundamental human rights such as food, health and education.

Greetings to everyone from the four of us: Erika, Iraia, Eli and Ainhoa.
