The Athletic Club Foundation and Sala BBK, with the sponsorship of Bilbao City Council, present the second Thinking Football Film Festival. This will take place every Thursday next May (1, 8, 15, 22 and 29) at Sala BBK, and in total there will be ten films from various countries (England, Sweden, the USA and Italy), which together will allow us all to reflect on the relationship of football with society. The big news for this year is that, unlike previous years, the schedule will include works of fiction, with two films of this type.

The festival will kick off on May 1 with the film ‘The Class of 92’, which recounts the story of a unique generation in world football, the so-called ‘Fergie Boys’ (David Beckham, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes, the Neville Brothers and Ryan Giggs) and closes with the showing of ‘Next Goal Wins,’ which tells the wonderful story of how the American Samoa national team stopped being the worst national team in the world during the qualifying rounds for the next World Cup in 2014. This is the first time that both films have been shown in the country.

During the festival, many of the directors of or actors in the films shown will be present.

Lastly, as in the last edition, an Audience Award will be given for best film, with a financial contribution that the director of the winning film has to donate to a social project related to sport.

The Thinking Football Film Festival has the generous collaboration of Viajes Barceló, Hoteles Aránzazu, Metro Bilbao, the magazine Panenka, the magazine Líbero, the Italian Institute of Culture in Madrid and our festival friends Off Side (Barcelona) and 11mm Film Festival (Berlin).

All screenings will take place at Sala BBK, with free entrance until seats are full.
