This afternoon, 26 June 2014, the Liga Profesional de Fútbol (LPF) has certified to Athletic Club that the player Ander Herrera Agüera has met the requirements demanded in the applicable legislation for the valid unilateral resolution of the employment contract that bound him to our Club. Said certification indicates that the player has unilaterally shown his will to terminate the contractual relationship that bound him since 11 July 2011 and that the amount of compensation established in the contract has been deposited.

Athletic Club would like to thank Ander Herrera for his dedication during the past three seasons he has been with the club and wishes him the very best in his future sporting endeavours.

As a result of the decision taken by the player, President Josu Urrutia has carried out a first evaluation on the part of our organization: ‘Athletic must always aspire to have players whose first option is to defend the Club jersey. In such sense, Ander Herrera’s decision is not aligned with that idea, which is a disappointment for us ‘.

Likewise, Urrutia has emphasized the following: ‘In its day, more specifically at the start of the 2011-12 season, Athletic Club signed Ander Herrera from Real Zaragoza and today, with a contract in effect and counting with him in our sporting project, he has already assumed both conditions to leave the organization, that is, he wants to leave the club and pay the termination clause gathered in his contract. It is not a pleasant moment, but in no way does it alter our philosophy or our way of conceiving the way our Club works. We have an excellent group of players with great competitive potential, and will continue forward with the same determination’.

Next week, at a date and time yet to be determined, President Josu Urrutia will offer a press conference.
