First away victory

RCD Mallorca 2 – Bilbao Athletic 3

Bilbao Athletic defeated RCD Mallorca by 2-3 at Iberostar Estadi. Markel Etxeberria, Gorka Santamaria and Mikel Vesga have scored the goals for the rojiblancos, whereas the local goals were the work of Lago and Aveldaño.

The cubs have obtained their first victory away from San Mamés so far this season and have harvested a well-deserved win after many matchdays of accumulating merits but no points.

Bilbao Athletic have once again endorsed three goals to the vermilions, as occurred in the first leg, although this time they had to trounce back twice from a weak start to each period. Markel Etxeberria responded to the first local goal with an awesome left-footed shot, a speciality of right wingers from it seems.

Nevertheless, the beginning of the second half has also been uphill, but the answer to the second local goal was also potent, and the goals by Santamaria and Vesga turned the marker over demonstrating what has been seen in previous matches: the team competes on a like-for-like basis, it continues their formation process and in spite of its deficiencies it never gives up.

On the negative aspect, Urtzi Iriondo will miss Saturday’s match (18:00 hours in San Mamés) against Real Valladolid as he was booked with his fifth yellow.
