Luck, once again dodging the penalty shootout

Athletic Club lost in the penalty shootout against FC Barcelona after the end of normal time, extra-time included, with a two-goal draw. Eunate and Lucía scored the goals for our team, while Mariona and Martens scored for the Catalan team. In the shoots from the eleven metres of distance, FC Barcelona has scored four times three of our team. The women’s team, therefore, could not have made it to the final despite playing a great match. During the first half the blue-maroon team has been superior, but the goal has not reached the final stretch and thanks to a move of strategy. In the restart the team has responded perfectly to the challenge. There has been more chances and, above all, the rythm has been maintained in the game. And, also in the final stretch, the match has been equalised thanks to a free-kick from Eunate. Things got a little hard on the uphill slope in the run-up and yet the reaction of our players has been great. At the very least a dizzying counter has been rounded off by Lucia. Athletic have overcome their fatigue and at least equalled their opponents’ quality, but were unable to cope with the curse of cup-penalties against their opponents today.
