In a multitudinous ceremony, held in the Sala BBK hall in Bilbao, Athletic Club was the protagonist of the presentation of the awards corresponding to the Sports Ceremony of El Correo, corresponding to the year 2018.

Two people were recognised by Athletic: in particular, Jose Ángel Iribar and Lucía García. “El Txopo”, deputy to the Presidency, red-and-white legend and the player who has made more matches with the Athletic Club shirt in our 121 years of history, specifically 614, received the award for his career in the middle of a thunderous ovation.

Likewise, the player Lucía García Córdoba won another trophy as runner-up in the U-20 World Cup with the Spanish national team. Precisely, because she was concentrated to play the Spain-USA match, she could not attend this event and, instead, the captain Ainhoa Tirapu and the coach Joseba Agirre, picked up the prize.

In addition to the two prize winners, the Bizkaia sports festival was led by President Aitor Elizegi, accompanied by the directors Begoña Castaño, María Tato, Itziar Villamandos, Goyo Arbizu, Jorge Gómez, Iker Goñi and Tomás Ondarra. Also, the captain of the first male team, Markel Susaeta, along with Aritz Aduriz and Óscar de Marcos. On behalf of the women’s team, the coach Joseba Agirre, the players Ainhoa Tirapu and Marta Unzué and physical trainer Iraia Iturregi attented the ceremony. Juan Carlos Ercoreca, Manolo Delgado and Andoni Ayarza, as well as numerous former Athletic Club players, were also present.
