A representation of the Athletic Club, headed by the president Aitor Elizegi, together with the Genuine team, a group of volunteers from the Foundation and Club employees, joins the 2,500 collaborators and more than 300 divers who collect waste on the Urdaibai coastline on 8 June.
Athletic Club Foundation is one of the sponsors of Zero Plastiko Urdaibai, the citizen action initiative aimed at cleaning up the coastal area from San Juan de Gaztelugatxe to Elantxobe, and led by the Department of Environment, Territorial Planning and Housing of the Basque Government, through the service of the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve, the diving club of Bermeo Izaro Sub and the Provincial Council of Bizkaia.
The campaign runs concurrently with the celebration of World Oceans Day and its objective is to raise awareness about the amount of garbage and plastics that pollute the coastline and marine ecosystems. Although the number of places for the collection of waste has been covered by the 2,500 registered (a limit established because it is a protected area), from the Athletic Club we encourage interested people to come to Ekoetxea Urdaibai, in Busturia, from 1:00 P.M., as it is organized a varied program of activities for all audiences, with performances, workshops, guided tours and concerts.
