De Marcos, ten years as a lion

His figure transcends football, he is an example for our future generations.

A decade. It’s just the time since Óscar de Marcos debuted with Athletic Club’s first team. With a red-and-white heart since he was a child -his aita (dad) was president of the Peña Athletic from Laguardia- , the versatile player turns 10 years as a lion. His figure transcends football: he is an example for our future generations on and off the pitch, where he shines even brighter if possible.

The 30-year-old from Alava has already accumulated a lifetime of experience at Athletic Club since his debut with Joaquín Caparrós against the Swiss Young Boys (Iker Muniain did it in the first leg of the qualifier and he did in the second leg a week later). He went from winning the 2015-16 Supercup under Ernesto Valverde’s tutelage to playing a dreaming football in Marcelo Bielsa’s first season.

In these ten years, Óscar de Marcos has accumulated 385 official matches with the first team (21st in the ranking), in which he has scored 32 goals, some of them unforgettable as the one he scored at Old Trafford. In addition to having played many matches in Europe (58 in the European League and 8 in the Champions League), he was called up for the Spanish national team by Vicente Del Bosque in the 2015-16 season and debuted with Euskal Selekzioa on 28 December 2013 against Perú.
