Williams: “San Mamés must be our fortress”

Iñaki Williams has been the protagonist of the press room of Lezama after the training of Athletic Club with just 48 hours left (Friday, 10 pm) for the derby against the Real Sociedad in San Mamés. The 9 red-and-white pointed out the keys to Friday’s encounter and the importance of the support of the fans to maintain the unbeaten streak in San Mamés: “It’s going to be a very equal match as derbies are usually, but I think their game is good for us because we are a high pressure team and thus we make all those who come to San Mamés suffer. Our stadium must be our fortress, and that’s our identity: to suffocate our opponents on their pitch and try to take our chances. On the first day, San Mamés helped us a lot. To see how the fans were, motivated us a lot. If the fans and the team are united, it’s very difficult to beat us.”

Top goalscorer zurigorri last season, Williams hopes to debut in this league by scoring the txuriurdin goal: “I’m very motivated, I like to score in derbies and hopefully I can score a goal to help the team to win. Football is streaky and I’m getting closer and closer to scoring. With work and effort it will come and I hope it will be soon.”
