During his press conference at San Mamés, Gaizka Garitano has explained the key to their triumph over Vitoria side, which has provisionally moved Athletic Club to the top of La Liga: “We have been patient, especially at the beginning, when we had the ball, but not in depth. I am really glad we kept that patience.” Garitano has shown his satisfaction with the performance of his side in the opening games, but he has sent a message of caution: “It makes me happy to see the enthusiasm among our people, we’ve had a good start, but inside we know five weeks is not time enough to take stock.”
The red-and-white manager has also talked about the few goals conceded during the beginning of the season: “We haven’t given our opponents many goal chances; defending well gives us confidence to attack later on.” In addition, he has pointed out the consistent performance put in during the last months in the previous the season: “It is praiseworthy to score to goals against Alavés, nobody had done it before neither this season nor in pre-season. We have to play now three games in six days so we have to keep a cool head and continue this way. We’re on the road for our next fixture, visiting Leganés, and the game is going to be complicated, they haven’t had the best start to the season”.
