Garitano: “We have lacked quality crosses”
Athletic manager points out the lack of success in their crosses from the flanks as one of the reasons for their defeat against Valencia
Displeased because “our team do not like losing,” Gaizka Garitano has talked to the media in José Iragorri conference room at San Mamés. However, the red-and-white manager has highlighted his players’ attitude until the final whistle: “I cannot ask the team for a greater effort. We have ended up exhausted and even being only ten on the pitch in the dying minutes, we have attacked until the end.”
Garitano has acknowledged Valencia’s side quality –“They have handled the game with the kind of experience only a team in the Champions can do” and he has remarked the lack of success in the crosses was one of the reasons why they could not level the game: “When a team is back and leaves empty spaces outside, you have to be accurate with your crosses, and we did not. We have handled the ball for long and maybe we should have played more direct, but on other occasions we have been blamed for doing the opposite. The spaces were on the outside and we managed to arrive well throw the flanks, but the crosses have not been good.”
