Garitano: “We found it difficult to create chances”

“We have not attacked much.” Gaizka Garitano has been self-critical at the end of the match between RC Celta and Athletic Club (1-0) as regards the offensive performance of his team. Athletic Club’s manager admitted their lack of attacking opportunities: “In the last 30 or 40 metres we should have done more. In the last quarter-hour, after the goal, we were not able to create any chances. We have not performed well in attack to have those chances.”

Garitano has given his view on the match at Balaídos: “During the first half we pressed up high and stole balls, but the decisions made in the last few metres were not good and we left our plays unfinished. In the second half, it all became more difficult for us because we started losing the ball easily, and approaching the goal that way is not easy. We played against a high-quality team, what forces you to defend faultlessly, otherwise Celta takes advantage of any mistake you make. The outcome of the game was to be decided by a detail, and we missed that corner kick.”

Despite the result, the red-and-white manager has sent a message of hope: “We are always optimistic. We have suffered two consecutive defeats, but we have to lift our heads up and get back to the path we were on.”
