Gaizka Garitano feels “glad to have broken the bad streak” after hammering RCD Espanyol 3-0

Athletic Club manager Gaizka Garitano has appeared before the press at San Mamés after his side’s 3-0 win over RCD Espanyol on the 11th matchday of LaLiga Santander. “We played well against Valladolid, the same way we did with Atlético de Madrid for 70 minutes. I wasn’t worried because our team were doing things well. But if you don’t win, it doesn’t matter how well you play. I’m glad we’ve broken our bad streak; nearly all First Division teams go through rough patches like this, or even worse.

One of the key aspects that the red-and-white coach has appreciated was the goal success rate. “We were really effective: the first two shots on target ended up as goals; then we were confident, the team took it seriously and did a great job. Now, we have to rest and start thinking about our next outing.” He also highlighted that “we were able to adapt ourselves well to their game, we both have entirely different systems.”

When asked about Unai Lopez’s injury, Garitano admitted that “his adductor muscle is still sore, it seems it’s nothing serious but he won’t be available on Sunday.
