Vallecas to return to competition

The Rayo Vallecano, fifth classified and undefeated in his field is presented as a difficult opponent for the lionesses in the return to competition

After two weeks of non-competition, the Primera Iberdrola returns this weekend. Athletic want to remove the bad feeling that left the defeat in Tenerife and return to the league with an away victory, as the lionesses will face on Sunday from 11.00 am to Rayo Vallecano in Madrid. The tenth matchday will compare two women’s football classics. There are already 16 consecutive seasons in which red-and-white’s and ‘franjirojas’ have met in the domestic competition and the confrontations have always been very complicated in Madrid’s territory. Seven victories have been obtained by Athletic, the same ones obtained by Rayo. Curiously, there have only been two draws and these have occurred in the last two seasons. Erika Vázquez, who could reappear this weekend, and Nekane are the strikers who have made the rival suffer the most with 7 and 5 goals, respectively.

The match will be a challenge for Villacampa. The surface, as in Granadilla, will be artificial grass again. In addition, the Rayo team remains undefeated at home. Santiso’s side have missed just two points out of four matches at the Ciudad Deportiva. Rayo is fifth in the classification with 14 points, two more than Athletic. The Venezuelan Oriana Altuve and the Montenegrin Bulatovic make up a dangerous pair at the front that will have to keep an eye on the red-and-white team.
