From the museum to the box: SD Eibar
Athletic Club and SD Eibar have played so far 45 matches, 16 of them were official.
The first meeting took place in 1948, October 12 when Athletic was 50 years old and Eibar was still under age, 8 years after its foundation. That friendly meeting, was like a training for the alternates of Athletic Club. There were facing a regional team but it was a starting point, and since then, we have statistics about all the clashes they have had.
Event three decades after the first official clash, the difference between both categories (SD Eibar was at the Third Division) was still significant and Athletic did not find difficulties in winning the qualifying round for the season 1979-80, with 10 goals for and 3 against.
It was in September 2014, the 27th when the lions and the players for Eibar faced their first meeting at the highest category, it was the 6th round of the season 2014-15. Eibar, with the current red-and-white manager Gaizka Garitano, and the current lions, Ander Capa and Dani García in their squad, won a deserving draw against an Athletic Club that got qualified for the European league at the end of the season.
The t-shirt used by the head of the team, Aurrabarrena, in that first encounter at the main category will be presented today at the Box.
