Garitano: “Mission accomplished”

After Athletic Club’s triumph in Elche in the first qualifying round of the 2019/20 Cup, Gaizka Garitano has been satisfied by the win of his pupils, 0-3 against CF Intercity. The red-and-white coach analysed a match that began with Ibai’s goal in the first minute: “Scoring a goal soon helped us, but we didn’t follow the same rhythm and in the first half there were no great chances. In the second half, when they’ve physically lowered the pressure, we’ve been superior and the Primera rhythm has been imposed. We have passed the elimination and the objective is fulfilled“.

Garitano has valued the good performance of an eleven with many changes with respect to the last ligueros clashes and has recognized the illusion of all the team to look for a long voyage by the copera competition: “With the exceptions of Raúl and Iñigo, new players have entered and they have done it well. We have a team that, whether we feel better or worse, they always take the match with intensity and concentration. For us the Cup is very appetizing and we want to go as far as we can. Today it was our first step and we are going to try to go through rounds because it is a competition that liked in Bilbao and historically, Athletic has always played well“.
