“It´s a tricky match, but it’s our duty to win”

Next Saturday, Ibai Gómez will go back to Las Llanas, the place where he started his career as a professional player: “Sestao River is in my heart. It ́ll be a very special team for me”.

Ibai Gómez went to the pressroom once he was done with the training of Athletic Club this morning. During this week off, without League matches, the lions will play on Saturday (19:00, Las Llanas) the second round of Copa del Rey against Sestao River. The rival for the upcoming match was the team where Ibai started his professional career: “Sestao River is in my heart. It ́ll be a very special team for me. I feel excited about playing there again”.

Regarding the match, Ibai feels that Athletic’s duty is to win the qualifying round but he warns about the tricky rival: “They are tricky matches; we should not think it´s gonna be an easy win. We will play with enthusiasm and the atmosphere will be great. We should face it as we did it against Intercity: with respect, but with the excitement of going through this qualifying round”.

When asked about the results of the first round of LaLiga, the player from Santutxu points out the great work carried out by the squad: “We don’t settle, we always want more, but figures are really good. In our defense lines, figures are amazing and we have taken a step forward when playing away. Our next objective has to do with goals and we are already working towards that”.

As for his personal situation, Ibai strengthened that his aim is always to help the team: “I work 200% to make the most of every minute in the field. I would love to play more time, of course, but my goal is to be always ready and available for the team. Besides, I feel really confidence.”
