“We wanted to win and we had the impression we were able to do it”

Gaizka Garitano admits that none of his players seemed “happy” after the 1-1 draw in Barcelona

Athletic Club has drawn 1-1 on the road against RCD Espanyol in the 21st Matchweek of LaLiga Santander. After the draw, Gaizka Garitano affirmed that “we wanted to win and we had the impression we were able to do it; none of the players seemed happy in the dressing room.” The red-and-white coach has shown his discontent with the results obtained in the last two league matches, both ending up in draws.

Regarding today’s fixture, Garitano declared that “this system is giving us good results, not only in defence. We haven’t taken a step backwards, but with their changes, they have put people in the front positions, not creating lots of scoring chances either.”

“The match plan was well performed, it is the player’s merit, the team is very competitive, but there is something we must improve. We can’t fail this much with final passes; in First Division you have to score in final passes.”

When asked about the possible changes for the Copa fixture on Tuesday in Tenerife, Garitano admitted that “we lacked power and speed in the front; I trust each and every player, all of them are entering.”
