An unknown territory to be conquered

For the first time in Abegondo, the lionesses will face Deportivo Abanca, which has not lost any match at home in the Primera Iberdrola

On Sunday (12.00pm), Athletic Club will play the 19th matchday of Primera Iberdrola against Deportivo Abanca at the Abegondo facilities in A Coruña. It will be the first time that the lionesses will play on this natural grass field. The match is expected to be very complicated, as Manu Sánchez’s team has not lost any match at home and has only got two points in the draw against UDG Tenerife.

The Galician team, which achieved a historic promotion to the Primera Division last year, has won the title of revelation team. The team led by Villacampa, fifth with 27 points, wants the fourth place held by the team from A Coruña, with 30 (they have to play the home match against Real Sociedad, which was postponed in December due to the storm).

The red-and-white team, who still have many casualties, will travel to A Coruña with the intention of keeping on adding after beating Valencia CF by the minimum. Meanwhile, Dépor lost in Tenerife by five goals to three. The first leg in Lezama ended in a 2-0 win for the Galician team thanks to goals from María Méndez and Gabriela Antonia, a Venezuelan striker who has already scored nine goals in the league.

The three points at Abegondo would be a milestone this season and, moreover, a draw with the Galician team at 30 points. A win that would give the lionesses a healthy boost before they face the round of 16 of the Queen’s Cup.
