Athletic looking for a fifth win at El Sadar

Athletic Club play Osasuna next, an opponent the lions have defeated in their last four trips to Navarre

On Saturday, October 24, Athletic Club travel to Pamplona and El Sadar, where the lions face CA Osasuna in LaLiga Santander at 18:30 (CET). After defeating Levante 2-0 at San Mamés this Sunday gone, Athletic will be looking to pick up three points on the road.

Sunday’s win over Levante will no doubt be a morale booster for the lions. What is more, Athletic have a decent record against Osasuna. From the past 39 matches between both sides in Pamplona, Athletic have won 17, drawn 11 and lost 11. In addition, from all those games, Athletic have scored a total of 64 goals, compared to Osasuna’s 45.

Over the past few years, the lions have done well in El Sadar, having won their last four LaLiga matches in Osasuna’s stadium. In 2012-13, Athletic won 1-0 thanks to a goal by former club captain, Markel Susaeta. Then there was a memorable 1-5 thrashing in 2013-14, a match in which striker Aritz Aduriz scored a brace, while Ibai Gómez, Kike Sola and Susaeta got a goal each. And finally, the last two trips to El Sadar, in 2016-17 and 2019-20, saw 1-2 victories for Athletic.

Basque rivals Osasuna are currently 11th in the LaLiga Santader table with seven points from five matches. The Pamplona-based outfit head into Saturday’s match off the back of a goalless draw against SD Eibar in Ipurua.
