Copa 2020-21 round-of-32 draw
One of six Segunda División B sides will be Athletic’s first opponents in this year’s edition of the cup competition
Athletic Club’s 2020-21 Copa del Rey campaign is one step away from beginning. At 13:00 CET today (January 8), the lions will discover their first opponents in this year’s competition.
The round-of-32 draw will be live on the Spanish Football Federation’s website. And the resulting fixture will take place within the next two weeks – the date is yet to be confirmed, but expected to be around January 20.
In addition to Athletic, Real Sociedad, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona will also enter the draw today, as these are the four teams participating in next week’s Spanish Super Cup.
The four teams will take on one of the Segunda División B sides still going in the competition.
This means Athletic will be drawn against one of the following six third-tier sides: CD Alcoyano, Córdoba CF, UE Cornellá, UD Ibiza, CDA Navalcarnero or SCR Peña Deportiva.
Furthermore, the fixture will be played at the stadium of the lower-ranked team, therefore Athletic’s first match in the Copa 2020-21 will not be at San Mamés.
