Mikel Balenziaga is confident Athletic can beat FC Barcelona in this Saturday’s Copa final
Athletic Club defender Mikel Balenziaga insisted the Lions are more than capable of defeating FC Barcelona in this Saturday’s Copa del Rey 2020-21 final, pointing to January’s Super Cup victory as evidence.
The Rojiblancos defeated the Catalans in a hard-fought 2-3 extra-time victory to win the Supercopa in January and they’ll be looking to repeat the feat this Saturday.
“We’re playing against Barça in a final again, and we know that we can beat them,” Balenziaga said at a virtual press conference on Wednesday morning. “We did it in January and we’ll try to do it again this Saturday.
“I think that winning, or not winning the Copa, will depend on us alone. Our performance has to be a ten out of ten.
“We have to be more intense than them, be brave and make few mistakes.
“We’re going to do everything possible to bring the Copa back to Bilbao. We’ll put everything into it, giving our maximum from minute one.”
Balenziaga reiterated how he wishes fans could be present at the match, saying: “We miss our people a lot. We would’ve liked them to be at the match against Real Sociedad, for the good and the bad. We’ll do everything we can for them.”
