Athletic Club player Oscar de Marcos said he wants to win Saturday night’s Copa del Rey final against FC Barcelona for the fans.

The Lions face Barça at 21:30 CEST in La Cartuja and will be looking to win the trophy for the first time in 37 years.

“We’re very hopeful and excited again,” De Marcos told Athletic Club in an exclusive in-house interview.

“What happened two weeks ago was a blow for everyone, but now we have an incredible opportunity.

“We want to do this for all the fans. I think they and we deserve it for everything we have fought through to get here.

“To get this trophy, which Athletic has wanted for so long, would be perfect.

“Hopefully, we’ll manage to do it this time. We’re going to do everything we can to make it happen.”

This is the third final Athletic have played at La Cartuja this year after the Copa 19-20 final against Real Sociedad and the Super Cup victory over Barcelona.

“It helps you relax,” De Marcos said about playing in Seville again. “You already know the stadium, the hotel, the city, etc.

“We’ve come here a few times already this season and every time it makes me excited.”

However, the no.18 highlighted that it’s never the same without Athletic fans behind them, saying: “We’ve now been through the good times and the bad times.

“When we won the Super Cup we missed the fans a lot and it was the same in the other Copa del Rey final.

“You need your family, your friends… you need that support and you miss it.”

Oscar, who has been at Athletic for 12 seasons now, admitted winning a major trophy with the Club would be special.

He said: “In all my years here I’ve always said winning a trophy with Athletic means more than anything else.

“Being able to get to fight for it is the first step and now we have another chance.

“We’re going to go all out for it because, for those of us who are Athletic fans, being able to win a Copa here would be unforgettable. After so many years, all these generations deserve it.”

The Copa del Rey 2020-21 final kicks off on Saturday night at 21:30 CEST. Here is a guide detailing where and when you can watch it around the world.
