The young player has racked up 32 appearances for Athletic Club since making his debut in the first fixture of LaLiga 2020-21
Young forward Jon Morcillo scored his first official goal for Athletic Club during Wednesday’s night’s clash with Real Valladolid. The winger became the first of this season’s batch of academy debutants to score in LaLiga Santander.
So far this campaign, Morcillo has made 32 appearances for the first team, 26 in LaLiga Santander, four in the Copa and two in the Supercopa.
It was Jon’s whipped left-footed finish from outside the box that gave Athletic the lead in the 14th minute. And he almost got a second 17 minutes later, forcing Jordi Masip into action with a volleyed effort from a corner.
Morcillo was the first player to make a first team debut for Athletic this season, becoming the 623rd footballer to pull on the famous red-and-white stripes. At the behest of then manager Gaizka Garitano, Jon made his debut against Granada on September 12, 2020, playing all 90 minutes of the LaLiga Santander fixture.
Last season, the player from Amorebieta played 29 games and scored 10 goals for Bilbao Athletic in the Segunda División B.
