Introducing Athletic Club’s 2021/22 home kit

New Balance has revealed Athletic Club’s home kit for the 2021/22 campaign. This modern take on the team’s traditional red and white stripes is now on sale in all Athletic Club retail outlets and the online store.

The Lions’ new jersey features a printed diagonal graphic pattern which symbolises Athletic Club’s influence throughout the Basque Country. This theme is further represented by the way in which the stripes and the diagonal feature reflect and intersect with the Club’s iconic crest.

The first-team jersey also has the Ikurriña flag stitched into the back of the collar, and the full kit is rounded off with black knitted shorts.

The goalkeeper’s kit comes in a classic shade of asphalt black, speckled with small flashes of grey, while the Athletic Club crest, the New Balance logo and the Kutxabank logo sport a metallic copper colour. This innovative colour combination is inspired by the region’s traditional mining industries, something which is always present at San Mames in the form of the fans’ “all iron” chant.

This Runs Deeper

The launch of the new kit is part of New Balance’s “This Runs Deeper” campaign for Athletic Club, which recognises the tireless efforts players and fans make to bring further success to the Club.

Athletic Club captain Iker Muniain highlighted how the 21/22 jersey represented the Club’s bond with the Basque Country.

“It’s a reminder of the special connection we have with the Basque people,” Muniain said.

“Whenever we wear the Athletic Club colours, we know the fans are with us. This year’s jersey really means a lot to us.”

General Manager of New Balance Football Kenny McCallum also spoke of how Athletic’s ties to the region inspired this year’s kit.

“Athletic Club’s signature red and white stripes are a fantastic canvas for New Balance’s bespoke designs,” McCallum added.

“Los Leones and the Basque region are intrinsically linked, and we feel it is important to continue celebrating the special bond.”

New Balance has applied the most advanced design technology to all 21/22 jerseys to guarantee superior performance. They have been developed with innovative NB Dry technology to help keep players cool and dry for the entire 90 minutes. Additionally, the elite version includes a jacquard ventilation system that provides extra comfort on the pitch.
