The Lionesses to kick off new campaign on September 4

The schedule for the Primera Iberdrola 2021-2022 season has been announced

Athletic Club Women pulled the curtain on their 2020-2021 season on Monday and are now on their holidays, which this year will not even last a month. The Lionesses will rest until July 26, when they start medical tests at IMQ before returning to work at Lezama.

Pre-season will kick off in the last week of July and it will last until the Primera Iberdrola starts again, which the Spanish Football Federation has announced is scheduled for the weekend of September 4. Newly promoted sides Villarreal CF and Deportivo Alavés will be joining the 14 teams already in the top flight.

The season will end on May 15, and the teams will play a total of 30 fixtures. The Copa de la Reina will kick off in October and the final will be played on May 29 2022. The Super Cup will be held from January 19-23.

As reported by the RFEF, there will be important changes for the 2022-2023 season. Firstly, there will be 14 teams in the Primera RFEF and not the 16 that there will be this season. Therefore, four teams will be relegated again this season.
