Mariasun Quiñones signs for Athletic Club Women
The international goalkeeper has signed a three-year contract with the Lionesses
Goalkeeper Mariasun Quiñones has signed for Athletic Club Women, signing a deal until June 30, 2024.
Born in Hondarribia, Quiñones, who turns 25 next October, joined Real Sociedad in the summer of 2014 from C.D Mariño de Irún. During her seven seasons at la Real, the goalkeeper played a total of 158 official matches.
In the 2018-2019 season, she won the Copa de la Reina with the San Sebastian-based side and was voted ‘Player of the Match’ in the final against Atlético Madrid.
The Real Sociedad captain, a regular the Spanish national team’s youth sides, played in the U-20 World Cup in Papua New Guinea in 2016 and made her debut with the senior team in 2017.
That same year she played in the European Championships in the Netherlands. She is also one of Basque national team’s first-choice goalkeepers.
Quiñones is a shotstopper with a lot of experience and consistency despite her 24 years of age. She is an agile and powerful goalkeeper, with good reflexes under the sticks.
