Itxaso Uriarte joins Athletic Club Women

Itxaso Uriarte has put pen to paper on a two-year deal to play for Athletic Club until June 30, 2023. Her contract can also be extended for a further year.

The 29-year-old midfielder is Real Sociedad’s third highest all-time appearance maker, with 261 matches. Born in Vitoria, Itxaso came up through the ranks at Aurrera de Vitoria and made her top-flight debut with la Real in September 2011.

After that, the midfielder became an important part of their squad and spent a further 10 seasons in San Sebastian.

Itxaso has a lot of experience in the First Division, and will bring muscle and aerial prowess to the midfield. She likes to drag the team forward through the middle and is tactically astute.

Uriarte is the second summer addition to Iraia Iturregi’s side, with the signing of goalkeeper Marias Quiñones confirmed on Thursday morning.
