Erika extends contract for another season

Athletic Club Women striker Erika Vázquez has signed a one-year contract extension, keeping her with the Lionesses until June 30 2022.

Erika will extend her legacy at Athletic even further by playing for a 17th season – a club record.

Erika Vázquez arrived at Lezama in 2004-05 and has been at Athletic for sixteen seasons. She made her first team debut in the UEFA Women Champions League match against Newtownabbey Strikers of Northern Ireland (10-3) in 2004.

Erika already has 401 official games, making her the third highest appearance maker in Athletic Club Women history. She is one game behind her current head coach Iraia Iturregi (402) and 12 games behind leader Eli Ibarra (413), so next season she could rise to the top of the list.

What’s more, no other female footballer has scored more goals (261) for Athletic Club. In the Club’s overall ranking, she is second only to Telmo Zarra (335 goals). The striker’s best goalscoring season was 2008-09, when she netted 32 league goals and one in the Copa.
