Ibai Gómez released from contract

The winger leaves Athletic Club with two Super Cup trophies and 193 appearances as a Lion in nine seasons.

Athletic Club and Ibai Gómez have reached an agreement to release the player from the remaining year of his contract.

After first joining from Sestao River in 2010-11, and across two stints totalling nine seasons, the winger went on to make 193 appearances as a Lion.

Ibai scored 18 first-team goals, won two Spanish Super Cup trophies (2014-15 and 2020-21) and was a four-time runner-up in the Copa del Rey.

He also won a runners-up medal in the Europa League in 2011-12, playing a starring role in Athletic’s run to the final. He got the winning strike -his first senior goal- against Schalke 04 in the quarter-finals, and his goal and assist in the semi-final second-leg tie against Sporting Lisbon at San Mamés were key to helping the Lions the final.

In addition to wishing Ibai the best of luck in his future endeavours, both personal and professional, Athletic Club would like to thank him for his commitment and dedication to the club and his teammates during his time as a Lion and, in particular, for the outstanding professionalism he displayed throughout this very complicated season.
