Alex Axpe’s Story

Alex Axpe’s Story

His story was chosen to represent all the members who live outside the Basque Country but maintain their ties to Athletic despite the distance

We have started a series of videos based on the stories of four people who applied to take the ceremonial kick-off at Athletic Club’s first home fixture of the season. These are four stories that, even though they tell completely different tales, show the unity and common feeling among all Athletic fans.

Alex Axpe is a medical student who spends most of the year in Alcalá de Henares. In his story, he says: “From afar, I have realised how important Athletic is in my life.”

Many of the stories we have received asking to take the ‘Ceremonial Kick-off’ are from members who live outside the Basque Country. From Brazil to Gijón and Madrid, fate has meant that for work, academic or family reasons, many Athletic supporters have settled too far away from San Mamés to be able to attend matches.

However, instead of fading, their sense of belonging was rekindled from afar. This is because Athletic is the link that keeps them united to their family, friends, homeland, and, in short, to the roots of their identity.

Don’t miss Alex Axpe’s story. A story that deserves to be told. A story written from the heart. A true and touching story.
