Ekain Begoña’s story

Ekain Begoña’s story

The protagonists are Luis Del Portillo, Irantzu Del Portillo and Ekain Begoña. They represent the families that pass on what being an Athletic supporter means from generation to generation

Luis Del Portillo always wanted his grandson to be a member of Athletic, even before baby Ekain was born or had a name. Luis’ parents, Mari Carmen and Luis, were members. His children, Aitor and Irantzu, are members. And now his grandson Ekain, who is only 16 months old, is also a member.

For so many Basque families, Athletic is something that goes beyond football, something that is handed down from parents to children. Something that holds generations together with a sense of belonging. Something “sacred”, as they say in the Del Portillo family.

Most of the stories we received were family stories. People paying homage to the loved ones with whom they share their love for Athletic, either because it was passed on to them or because of their desire to pass it on.

Ekain Begoña Del Portillo’s story is a tribute to all Athletic-supporting families. Stories that deserve to be told. Stories written from the heart. True and moving stories.
