The Champions set off for Riyadh

Athletic take 24 players to Saudi Arabia for their Spanish Super Cup defence, which starts on Thursday against Atlético Madrid

A busy Tuesday morning for Athletic Club. The defending Spanish Super Cup champions are making their way to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where they will attempt to retain the trophy they won last year.

The first hurdle comes on Thursday, when the Lions take on current LaLiga title holders Atlético Madrd at the King Fahd Stadium (20:00 CET)

Marcelino has named a 24-man squad for the competition: Unai Simón, Jokin Ezkieta, Julen Agirrezabala, Petxarroman, I. Martínez, Yeray, Vesga, Berenguer, O. Sancet, I. Williams, Muniain, Vivian, Dani García, Lekue, Yuri Berchiche, De Marcos, Zarraga, Villalibre, Capa, Raúl García, Nolaskoain, Balenziaga, N. Williams and Nico Serrano.

After a six-hour-long flight, the travelling party will arrive at the team hotel in Riyadh at around 22:30 local time (CET +2).

On Wednesday at 14:45 CET, Marcelino, accompanied by a player, will also hold a pre-match press conference at the Prince Faisal Stadium in the Saudi city, where the team will then have their final training session before facing Atlético Madrid on Thursday.
