Balenziaga signs contract extension until 2023

Athletic Club left-back Mikel Balenziaga has signed a one-year contract extension, keeping him in Bilbao until June 30, 2023.

The defender’s last contract was set to expire at the end of this season and his new agreement contains no release clause, just like his previous deal.

This extension ensures the Lion will head into a 12th season at Athletic. Mikel has already made 314 appearances for the Club, 28 of which have come during this current campaign.

Balenziaga has two Spanish Super Cup medals to his name, having been involved in the 2015 and 2021 finals against FC Barcelona.

The full-back will hold a press conference in Lezama on Wednesday afternoon at 12:45 CET.
