Nekane Díez signs one-year contract extension

The Athletic striker will spend a 16th season at Athletic Club.

Athletic Club Women striker Nekane Díez has put pen to paper on a new deal, keeping her at the Club until June 30, 2023.

The Lionesses will spend a 16th season in the red-and-white stripes. With 363 appearances, Nekane is the fourth player with the most official matches, while she is also the Club’s second top scorer with 160 goals, only behind Erika Vázquez.

Nekane is the youngest ever player to make a debut as a Lioness. She did so as a 15-year-old in a European clash in Ljubljana on August 7, 2007, she also scored her first senior goal in that same match.

The Lioness has spent her entire career at Lezama and has been a fairly consistent player. In December 2015 she suffered a serious knee injury in a friendly match with the Basque national team and in 2019 she had to undergo surgery again to resolve the problems with her left knee.

Despite being just 30-years-old, the striker is one of the most experienced players in the changing room. After 15 seasons in the top flight, she will have the opportunity to keep shining.
