Athletic Club off to a flying start in LaLiga

Los Rojiblancos go into the first break in the competition in the Champions League places, fourth with 13 points

Athletic Club have four wins, a draw and a defeat in the six games they have played until the first LaLiga break. Ernesto Valverde's side have taken 13 points and are now in fourth place in the standings. The numbers confirm the good sensations that the team is transmitting, with the best start to the league since 1993, a season in which Jupp Heynckes' Athletic finished in 5th place with 43 points (victories still added 2 points). In addition, Los Leones have equalled their best goal scoring record up to matchday 6 in the last 40 years, with 12 goals to their name.

Only RCD Mallorca and RCD Espanyol have been able to steal points from Athletic Club at the start of the season. The rest of the teams, Valencia CF, Cádiz CF, Elche CF and Rayo Vallecano, have succumbed to the 'rock and roll' that Valverde's team proposes. The goals in Cadiz and Elche, with four goals scored in each game, the three goals scored against Rayo Vallecano and one against Valencia CF in San Mamés, make an average of two goals scored per game for Athletic Club. Berenguer (3), I. Williams (2), N. Williams (2), Sancet (2) and Guruzeta (2) complete the list of goalscorers for the Lions.

Athletic is also the third team that concedes the fewest goals in LaLiga after Barcelona and Villarreal, with only four goals conceded.
