Eneko Bóveda returns to Athletic Club

The former Lion has joined the Department of Development and Loans, where he will work as a scout

Athletic Club have added former Lion Eneko Bóveda to the Department of Development and Loans, where he will work as a scout in addition to carrying out other duties.

Eneko joins Mikel González, head of the newly created department, and will aid the recruitment team in the identifcation and monitoring of footballers.

During his playing days, Bóveda obtained his coaching qualifications (Level III) while working with the youth teams at Deportivo and Abadiño KE. Furthermore, over recent years Eneko has studied a degree to become a Telecommunications Engineer, another example of his interest in education and development.

Bóveda first joined Lezama as a teenager, climbing up through all the ranks until he made his senior debut under Joaquín Caparrós in 2008/09.

After a successful spell with SD Eibar, where he was involved in consecutive promotions from the Segunda B to LaLiga Santander, the defender returned to Athletic ahead of the 2015/16 campaign, a season in which he made 37 appearances, nine in the Europa League, and won the Spanish Super Cup.

Eneko had made a total of 71 appearances as a Lion by time he left for Deportivo La Coruña midway through 2017/18. Despite relegation and three years in the Segunda División, Bóveda became a leader in the dressing room and a fan favourite at Depor. Last season he retired from football after a brief stay in Cyprus with Olympiakos Nicosia.
