Valverde: "I think we could've and should've won"

Athletic Club head coach Ernesto Valverde felt Los Leones let victory slip out of their hands during Tuesday night's 2-2 draw with Getafe CF at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez.

Athletic twice took the lead, through Iñaki Williams and Raúl García, but on both occasions Getafe were able to draw level.

"I think we could've and should've won," Valverde said in his post-match press conference.

"It was possibly our toughest, most physical, game of the season so far. We would have liked to get the three points, but it wasn't to be. Maybe today wasn't our most sparkling performance, but we have to move on."

Los Rojiblancos remain unbeaten away from Bilbao with two wins and two draws, and they went close to picking up another three points on the road.

Valverde said: "We started very well, scoring in the first attack. Then they pressed us back with second balls and crosses from the flanks.

"In the second half, we came out even more determined to win, the game went in our favour and we tried to dominate. After their second equaliser, we went all out for the winner until the very end, but we couldn't find a breakthrough."

The team will now turn their focus to this Sunday's clash against FC Barcelona (21:00 CEST), another tough away day for the Lions.

"In these three games we haven't achieved as much as we would have liked," Valverde added. "Nevertheless, I'm pleased with the attitude and how we've gone out to try and win every match."
