Explained: Athletic Club General Assemblies

Explained: Athletic Club General Assemblies

Every year Athletic holds a General Assembly, where Members can vote on issues related to the governance of the Club

This evening at 19:00 CET, in Bilbao's Palacio Euskalduna, the Board of Directors, chaired by Club president Jon Uriarte, will hold an Ordinary General Assembly with Club Members (Socios).

These General Assemblies take place annually and are an important part of the democratic process at Athletic Club. Every year up to 1,200 Club Members known as 'Socios Compromisarios' (Representative Members), who are selected by and acting on behalf of 40,000 other Members, get the chance to vote on, and make their voices heard on, a range of administrative issues affecting the Club, such as budgets, management, statutes and Members' rights.

Furthermore, Assemblies give Socios the opportunity to express their opinions on more specific subjects. For example, fans can petition the club to hold Extraordinary General Assemblies, as was the case for the approval of San Mamés' Standing Section in 2022.

Representative Members in attendance vote via an electronic remote control. In addition to the information sent to Representatives about the voting system, the attendees can ask for help with the use of the device. Furthermore, those authorised to vote online will receive assistance to resolve any possible incidents.

Representatives must enter Euskalduna using an Electronic Attendance Card sent to them by email. It can also be downloaded via the Members' Txoko or obtained at the Members' Customer Service Office in San Mamés. This card includes a QR code which will grant access to the building. It can be printed out or saved on a mobile phone and must be shown at the entrance along with a valid form of photo ID.
