Athletic Club Women through to Copa semi-finals

Athletic Club Women have secured a place in the Copa de la Reina semi-finals, which will be held in the last week of May. Iraia Iturregi's side are just two steps away from lifting the trophy.

The match against Osasuna was as tight as expected, but the Lionesses came out on top thanks to goals from Ane Azkona and Peke.

Osasuna had chances to score in the first half, with several shots hitting the woodwork. However, it was Azkona who showed no mercy in the 11th minute to put Athletic ahead. The forward gave Athletic the lead after getting on the end of a superb through ball from Itxaso.

Osasuna tried to level the match but without success, attempts from Vilariño and Valero both hitting the crossbar. Athletic tried to extend their lead, but the half-time break came at the right time.

In the second half, the game continued to be just as intense. Athletic were more composed as they set about protecting their advantage while looking for a second. In the 64th minute, Azkona served up a great ball for Peke, who made it 0-2 with a left-footed effort.

Osasuna's reaction was not long in coming and Sobrón beat Quiñones in the 67th minute. In the back and forth, Athletic had clear chances to settle the tie, but held out to seal their place in the Copa de la Reina semi-finals.

Alhama CF, Atlético de Madrid or Real Madrid CF await. Two consecutive victories, Copa objective achieved and on Sunday Athletic take on Valencia CF in a league match at Lezama.
